【英語】 Shichimi : 日本の伝統調味料、七味唐辛子をどうぞ!

“Shichimi” refers to Japanese spicy condiment “Shichimi Togarashi”, which literally means ‘seven flavor chili pepper’. 

The mixed spice consists of red chili pepper and six other ingredients, which slightly differ by The vendors。Commonly blended ingredients are as follows;

七味とは、七味唐辛子を指します。字のとおり、唐辛子を中心とした七つの香辛料を調合した日本の調味料です。調合する原料は生産者により少しtずつ異なりますが、主に以下のものが使用されています。

 

Red Chili Pepper 赤唐辛子
Black Sesame Seeds 黒胡麻
White Sesame Seeds 白胡麻
Dried Ginger   生姜
Dried Orange peel 陳皮(みかんの皮)
Sansho Pepper  粉山椒
Nori seaweed  海苔
Perilla Seeds   紫蘇
Hemp Seed  麻の実

 

“Shichimi” has a long history, originally blended by traditional Chinese herbal medicine shops in the 17th century.
江戸時代、17世紀に漢方薬を参考に調合し売り出したのが由来です。

 

“Shichimi” is commonly used in various occasions and for variety of dishes. It is sprinkled over “Udon” noodles, “Yakitori”, “Shabu-shabu” hot pots, rice bowl dishes, and all sorts of other dishes. Some enthusiasts use it to flavor even salads or simply a bowl of rice!
七味はとても広く使われています。うどん、しゃぶしゃぶ、焼き鳥、丼物、その他多くの料理に使われます。中にはサラダや普通のご飯にも用いるような人もいます。
