【英語】 Suika : スイカ割りを楽しんで、涼しくなりましょう!

“Suika” :  Watermelon
“Suika” is another item that frequently show up in typical scenes of hot Japanese summer. The season for the fruit is from June to August. It is very popular, and people commonly enjoy it for afternoon snacks or for deserts throughout  the summer days.

スイカもまた日本の夏の風物詩、6月から8月がシーズンです。とても人気があり、夏の間ずっと、日常のおやつやデザートに楽しまれています。

 

The fresh is very juicy (contains 80-90% water) and good for re-hydration. Matches well with hot and humid Japanese summer.
果肉は水分を多く含んでおり(80-90%が水分)水分補給に適しています。蒸し暑い日本の夏にぴったりです。

 

“Suikawari” : a watermelon splitting game, is a traditional game in Japan, often enjoyed in the summertime during festivals, parties, or on the beaches. Watermelon is laid out, and each participants, blindfolded and spun around several times, will attempt to smash it open with a wooden stick, while others yell out instructions. After succeeding, chunks of watermelon will be shared among participants. The taste is exceptional, especially when you’ve tried hard splitting it!
スイカ割りは日本で伝統的に楽しまれてきた夏の遊びです。お祭りやビーチ、友人とのパーティーなどで今も行われています。目隠しされた参加者が順番に木の棒を使い、スイカを割りに挑みます。割れた後に皆で食べるスイカの味は格別です!
