Gyudon” : Beef bowl

“Gyudon” has now become, in a sense, a national food. Fast food restaurant chains specialized in this dish are found throughout Japan, and people enjoy them in their everyday life.

牛丼は今やある意味、国民食です。牛丼のファーストフードチェーンが全国に展開していて、多くの人が日常楽しんでいます。

 

“Gyudon” is commonly a bowl of rice topped with beef and onion cooked together in a mild sweet soy-sauced-based special sauce. It is usually served together with “Beni Shoga”, pickled ginger, as seen in the picture

 

You could add some “Shichimi” (ground chili pepper) for some accent in taste. Also, some try topping with a raw egg.

牛丼はどんぶりご飯の上に、醤油ベースのつゆで煮込んだ牛肉と玉ねぎを載せたものが多いです。写真に見られる紅ショウガが添えらます。七味での味付けをしたり、生卵をかけていただく人もいます。
